The story

Every few months, my laptop would fill up and I had no idea why. The built-in storage view only showed vague categories, terminal commands printed walls of numbers, and most cleanup apps wanted a subscription just to tell me my Downloads folder was big. None of them answered the real question: what is taking up space, and is it safe to delete?

When I was down to my last 12GB again, I decided to build the tool myself. bigfiles is a command-line tool written in Rust. It scans my home folder in seconds, groups files by type, flags files I haven't touched in years, and finds duplicate copies. From there, I can clean things up without leaving the terminal. The first time I ran it, it found 40GB of old video exports and duplicate project folders. I published it to crates.io so anyone else dealing with the same problem can use it too.
